Come to Lucca for a fun and carefree weekend: for the first time, the Viareggio Carnival is coming to Lucca! Make the most of this experience! Come and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the most “foolish” event ever with this special package.
Adults and young children, couples and families: no one will resist the cheerful atmosphere in Lucca’s streets and squares, for a weekend full of surprises and special events.
Day 1
After your arrival in Lucca in the afternoon and after checking in your luggages, reach Lucca’s city centre to visit the exhibition “Lucca, storie di carrozze e Carnevali” (“Lucca, stories of carriages and Carnivals”), in collaboration with the Association “Napoleone ed Elisa: da Parigi alla Toscana” (“Napoleon and Elisa: from Paris to Tuscany”).
After that, stroll along the evocative alleys of the city, where you can also grab a bite for dinner.
For the evening, take part in a special event: Cristina D’Avena and Gem Boy will liven up Piazza Anfiteatro with their music, for the entertainment of both children and adults!
Day 2
Start the day with a guided tour of Lucca’s historic centre: discover the secrets of the city and its most known monuments.
In the afternoon, take part in “Carnival in Piazza San Michele”, an event for the younger ones with games, music and entertainment and typical Carnival sweets prepared by the pastry shops of the city centre.
On the other hand, adults can indulge in some shopping time thanks to “Sconti in Maschera”, which consists of special carnival discounts and offers in the best shops of the old town center.
A typical restaurant of the city centre will delight you with its “Carnival menu”, with the possibility of eating traditional Carnival food. After that, celebrate the Allegra Baccanata with surprising masks and entertainment in the bars and venues of the historic centre.
Day 3
In the morning, visit the outstanding Palazzo Mansi National Museum, a museum that boasts an exhibition of textiles and an example of historic houses built by Lucca’s wealthiest merchants. After that, climb up the Guinigi Tower (the tower with the roof garden!) and enjoy the view from its top.
After lunch, which can be chosen at will, take part in the great parade and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Viareggio Carnival characterized by people wearing traditional masks and costumes! This is a historical moment for the Carnival which, for the first time ever, takes place far from its original town. In the afternoon, come and celebrate the Carnival on the evocative City Walls of Lucca.
End the day with a bang and taste a traditional culinary specialty: the “Tordellata di Carnevale”, one of the most traditional and iconic dishes of the area. The event takes place in Piazza San Francesco, accompanied by live music by Manolo Strimpelli.
